Dimples are genetically inherited
Believed to be a sign of beauty (and in some cultures luck), These sought-after cheek ‘indents’ occur due to a variation in the zygomaticus major muscle (that’s the big one on the side of your face) which is usually in one piece, but is divided into two in those with dimples, leaving a small indentation in these fibres. When you smile, the muscle fibres attached to the skin pull and the indentation shows – creating the appearance of dimples. Only 20 % of people in the world are blessed with dimples. Dimple on both sides of your mouth or on just one side. A dimple is a small natural indentation in the flesh on a part of the human body, most notably in the cheek, chin and lower back.
